John Antonowicz joined our firm in 1993. He is a highly regarded expert in Social Security Disability law. John earned his bachelor's degree in 1986 from SUNY at Stony Brook and his law degree from SUNY at Buffalo School of Law in 1990.
Following law school John served as Legal Services attorney, where he advocated for disadvantaged clients in landlord-tenant and other consumer cases in County District Courts.
This experience gave John a keen understanding of the importance of excellent legal representation for all citizens, regardless of income level.
John next worked for the Social Security Administration's Office of Hearings and Appeals as an attorney advisor. He researched the law and advised Administrative Law Judges. He also drafted proposed decisions and frequently prepared stipulations of settlement for Social Security Disability, Supplemental Security Income and Medicare cases. His experience within the Social Security organization gave him a unique perspective and insight into the disability administrative process as well as litigation. He also developed superb skills as a legal writer and appellate attorney. This background comes to bear when he represents our clients in disability cases.
John has handled literally thousands of Social Security Disability cases, from initial application right up to appeals to United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. John's clients like his professional, no-nonsense approach to handling their legal matters.
John maintains several professional affiliations, including the New York State Bar Association, and the National Organization of Social Security Claimants' Representatives. He has lectured to other attorneys in the area of Social Security Disability law on behalf of the Practicing Law Institute. John is also well versed in the areas of wills and estate law.
He devotes much of his spare time to serving his community. He is a member of the Board of Directors of SILO (Suffolk Independent Living Organization), an organization that works with the disabled population. He frequently gives lectures on various areas of law for local organizations, hospitals, advocacy groups and bar associations. His extensive experience as an attorney concentrating in Social Security Disability coupled with his insider experience at the Social Security Administration makes him well-accomplished to handle our clients' legal needs.
