Fusco, Brandenstein & Rada, P.C. attorneys have a strong commitment to support community, charitable and labor organizations in the communities they serve. In addition our attorneys are actively involved in lecturing about our areas of practice to community groups as well as in continuing legal education courses, where we help other attorneys develop the expertise they need to thoroughly and competently represent their own clients. Here is a sampling of some recent goings on at our firm:

Rada presents to Police Sergeants

On January 14, 2005, Milan Rada was invited to address newly appointed Nassau County Police Sergeants on issues concerning Police Disability, including proper filing, aided numbers, Worker's Compensation, the role of the Medical Administration Office and Police Surgeons, treating physicians, various types of disability pensions, the definitions of incidents and accidents, and Social Security Disability, accurate report writing, and Police Officers' obligations and rights under General Municipal Law 207 (c).

Mr. Rada also made a similar presentation to the newly appointed officers, trustees and delegates of the Nassau County Police Benevolent Association on March 14, 2005.

Fusco addresses Long Island Working Partnership

The Long Island Working Partnership, is a coalition of employers, government agencies and vocational rehabilitation specialists, whose mission is to assist disabled persons train for and secure employment opportunities. On July 22nd, 2005 at Farmingdale State University, Vic Fusco addressed the organization on the topic of employer liabilities. He offered a survey of the issues employers must deal with in the employment arena, covering such areas as Workers' Compensation, Disability, Liability for employees' acts, Family and Medical Leave, Wage & Hour violations, Prevailing Wage, Workforce housing, Employment Discrimination including age, gender, racial, ethnic and disability discrimination and related issues.

ADA Confab honors Detective Steven MacDonald.

On Monday July 25th, 2005 Nassau County Commissioner for the Physically Challenged and long-time friend, Don Dreyer, hosted a breakfast ceremony commemorating the 15th Anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilites Act. Vic Fusco, FBR managing attorney and Sara Fusco, FBR Director of Community Relations, were pleased to be among the invited guests. A Special Award was presented by County Executive Tom Suozzi to Detective Steven MacDonald, who despite being paralyzed in a shootout, has made it his life's mission to inspire others to overcome limitations posed by their physical or mental impairments. Father Thomas Hartman was also recognized. James J. Weisman, General Counsel of the United Spinal Association USA, gave the keynote address.

Fusco, Brandenstein & Rada, P.C. hosts Foundation Fighting Blindness

Fusco, Brandenstein & Rada, P.C. is hosting planning meetings for the 11th Annual Blind Wine Gala of the Foundation for Sight & Sound. Mitchel Shapiro, President of the Foundation for Sight and Sound has been holding his monthly volunteer meetings at the Fusco, Brandenstein & Rada, P.C. Conference Room in Woodbury. When the movable walls are opened up, the five center conference rooms open up into one large area with room for up to 70 guests, and most of the seats are filled whenever Mitch holds a volunteer meeting. Fusco Makes Presentation for Suffolk Academy of Law

On August 11th, 2005 Vic Fusco, gave a presentation to the Suffolk Academy of Law. The Academy is the arm of the Suffolk Country Bar Association which provides continuing legal education to attorneys. His topic was "Avoiding Legal Malpractice, Grievances and Just Plain Sloppiness in the Handling of Social Security Disability Claims."

Brandenstein & McCabe Lecture at Professional Seminar

Partners Richard J. Brandenstein and Erin McCabe from our Workers' Compensation Department presented at an all-day seminar entitled "Advanced Workers' Compensation in New York" under the auspices of Sterling Educational Services, Inc. on September 27th at the Melville, Hilton. The seminar was geared to attorneys, human resource professionals, risk managers, vocational rehabilitation specialists, insurance claim specialists, safety directors, and occupational health nurses. Fusco & Brandenstein to present at Labor-Management School

Dr. Thomas Germano, director of the Labor-Management Center in Bohemia, has requested FBR partners to serve as adjunct faculty. Vic Fusco and Dick Brandenstein offered two 3- hour sessions (one in Bohemia and one in Nassau County) on Workers' Compensation, disability and unemployment law on October 19th and 20th, 2005. The seminar is but one section of a 10 week program, leading to a Certificate in Labor Studies. In the Spring, the firm will host a number of classes for the Labor-Management Center at its Woodbury location. The firm, in its Woodbury Conference Center, is hosting the Nassau County classes, held on Thursday evenings for the Labor-Management Center's Spring Semester.

Fusco, Brandenstein & Rada, P.C. in the Labor Day Parade

New York City celebrated Labor Day 2005 on September 10th, the Saturday following the actual date of Labor Day, with a big Labor Day parade. Many people don't know that Partner Vic Fusco, is also a musician. His Roadhouse Band (playing country western and rock) entertained as part of the float with UFCW/RWDSU Local 338. This was the fourth time the band has appeared in the Labor Day Parade!

Community Relations

Fusco, Brandenstein & Rada, P.C. has a full time director of Community Relations, Sara Fusco. Sara represents the firm with various organizations, labor unions and charities in the Long Island community. She also produces our radio program "Labor-Lines" and maintains our speakers' bureau.

We support a number of charitable, fraternal, labor and civic organizations. Vic and Sara recently helped the Long Island Federation of Labor at their annual golf outing, assisting the new leadership in organizing the event, procuring raffle gifts and selling raffle tickets. Vic, Sara and Milan attended a golf outing to benefit the Nassau AMT Children of Hope Foundation whose mission is to rescue abandoned infants. Dick Brandenstein joined our long time clients at IBEW Local 1049 for their golf outing and met many old friends and acquaintances. Dick and Milan attended the Nassau PBA golf outing, and the Detectives Association annual picnic. Vic Fusco serves on the Board of the Lupus Alliance of Nassau and Queens and recently assisted the organization in negotiating a new lease for larger space for its headquarters.

Fusco, Brandenstein & Rada, PC Support Local Disability Focused Organizations

On August 18th, 2005 Vic Fusco, Richard Brandenstein & Milan Rada presented a $1000 sponsorship to Mike Stolz, the Executive Director of Clubhouse of Suffolk, Inc., a Ronkonkoma based not for profit agency that provides patient services, rehabilitation and referrals to individuals suffering from mental illness. The firm participated in the Clubhouse sponsored Mental Health Awareness Day to be held at the Huntington Town House on October 21st. That same day the firm also participated in the Teamster Center Services Exposition at the Grand Hyatt in Manhattan. The Firm also presented a $1500 sponsorship to the Foundation for Sight and Sound in connection with the tenth annual Blind Wine Gala to be held on September 26th at the Crest Hollow Country Club. The firm also presented a $1000 donation to the Lupus Alliance of Long Island/Queens in connection with their "Walk-Along for Lupus" held on October 16th at Eisenhower Park. In addition the firm has donated the entertainment for a number of Lupus Events held throughout the year. The firm participated in the Scleroderma Foundations's Educational Forum on March 25, 2006 at Huntington Hospital. On April 29th the firm will have a display table at the New York Chiropractic College's Educational Symposium.
