New York City/State Disability Pensions
When your job puts you at risk or you're too ill to work, disability pensions can help you make ends meet
Are you a New York City employee? Do you work for the State of New York, or are you employed by a county, town or village government? Perhaps you're a Police Officer, a sanitation worker or a teacher. Maybe your job is hazardous by nature, or maybe you work in an office. Any worker can unexpectedly become disabled by an accident or sudden or chronic illness.
One of the benefits of Civil Service Employment is the availability of disability pensions for workers who become disabled from work due to either an injury or sickness whether incurred on - or off - the job.
The agencies that administer these plans don't make it easy however. There are various types of disability pensions available to disabled workers, depending upon an employee's length of service (Tier), the manner in which the disability occurred and the type of employment engaged in. Each benefit has different proof requirements and extremely strict filing deadlines.
Our experience has shown that most workers make critical errors in the initial application process, usually before they've had a chance to get legal advice. Since 1978, Fusco, Brandenstein & Rada, P.C.'s Pension Department has successfully handled hundreds of claims before both the New York City and New York State Employees' Retirement Systems. We know the New York disability pension law as it applies to the facts of your case; we know when you need to file and what you have to prove. We will educate you and your doctors about the type of information the City and State Retirement Systems require. We also handle administrative hearings and appeals and court proceedings.
If you are thinking of applying for a Civil Service disability pension, or if you've applied and been denied, don't waste another minute! Do yourself a favor and call us, toll free at 1.800.416.5454. Ask for our Pension Department.
